![]() | Ace of Bass Ok, so the other day I was jamming with my band and my bassist let me use his RH bass (I make a point of saying it was right handed cuz he's ambidextrous but he normally plays LH) and I started widdling about as if I was on my 6 or 7 string 'leccy. I fell in love with bass playing that very moment, and apparently I was'nt half bad @ it. So I got thinking, perhaps I should add another string to my bow, by removing three from my guitar! By that I don't mean whipping three strings off my 7, but buying a bass guitar and I saw this and got major GAS, so I thought who better to get an opinion off but the ss.org guys (I already asked my bassist and he was too busy drooling to answer!) So here it is... http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/ima...1_TK_1M_01.gif![]() Opinions plz! |

FWIW, I spend most of my time playing bass on the neck pickup. I'd miss not having one... FWIW deux, had I not bought my Sherman I'd probably have grabbed one of these: Buy Schecter Stiletto Custom-5 Bass online at Musician's Friend "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The biggest complaint about the ATK basses comes from fingerstyle players. In that there's no real useable place to anchor your thumb when playing the low E string. I'm a bit surprised Ibby didn't look into that when reissuing these basses . But I guess they have a reason for the pickup being that wide with the polepieces extending that far past the strings. Sound wise, they're pretty good. Although I still think the original design they're based off of (EBMM Stingray) does a better job of what this bass is trying to accomplish. For uber-low metal, I'd go with a 5 string anyway, just for the added range - it's nice to be able to toss in the occasional high note as well as the super-low stuff, which tends to get a bit touch to reproduce. |

![]() The best part about them is that the electronics are easily upgradeable if you're not digging the passive EMG's in there. You can easily swap them out for the active EMG 40DC/CS, or replace everything with a Seymour Duncan Basslines setup. Which is exactly what I did to one of these for a friend. That bass destroys now. | |
