Knucklehead?

does anyone know where I can find songs or at least soundclips of a knucklehead octave bass, or any bass for that matter that goes one octave below an 8 string guitar at F# F or E?
it would be really cool to hear if it actually gets heavier or just muddier.
if it sounds good then maybe I can persuade my bassist friend into buying something like that

Have you tried contacting Knucklehead? He's a member here.

I'd love to hear clips too

oh, didn't think of that, well anyways, I was thinking more if someone knew of a band that actually uses it. but maybe I'll just contact him and see what I can get

knuckle_head is a jewel in the rough
There's a friend of mine that used my personal 4 to do this reggae/dub/pop thing - I'm not sure if he has permission to distribute the cut and it may not stylisticly be your cup o' tea, but it's one of the best recordings of my bass that I've heard.

Want I should get in touch and find out?

There are sound samples on BassTasters - one of them using the F# - but they aren't in a band setting.

Edit; 5 string sample page

6 string F# samples (I think)

Choosing the path less traveled means more than occasionally you walk alone.

ok, thanks a lot for the clips, it sounded nice, but not really my cup of tea. I'm looking for a little meshuggah style riffs and stuff. I'm sure it'd sound groovy with slow grinding heavy riffs, the question is how fast riffs you can play on the low F# or E before it gets muddy and stuff. but sure, if you could find some songs with this reggae band it would be awesome

I found that clip of the Quake 4 with the sub bass (octave E) tuning - it's a myspace clip.

MySpace.com - Hello Karma - SEATTLE, Washington - Alternative / Rock / Lyrical - www.myspace.com/hellokarmamusic

Listen to 'No One Likes a Fool' and 'The Slow Vibration'

More poppy than is likely to your taste, but this is one of the best representations of the 20 Hz E I've heard recorded.
