Cort Curbow

I just got mine a few days ago.

The electronics are great, but I'm kind of underwhelmed by the basic sound, especially when compared to my Peavey Grind. It does a thuddy sound (think P-bass or Music Man) pretty well, and the eq gives you a lot of options, but it feels like it's been used quite a bit, and I'm wondering if it just needs a new set of strings?

And if so, what should I buy? Bass strings are really expensive and I don't want to make a mistake. The bottom strings sound kind of dull, and don't quite match the top like they should...I'm considering not just rounds but tapewounds or flats as well, but don't quite know what would be a good match.

Question authority. Don't ask why, just do it.

flatwounds are much warmer, and wont exactly help your chase for a punchier less dull tone. Id go for the elixers. While i just recently warmed up to their guitar strings, Ive been a big fan of the bass strings for a good while

I tried a set of Ken Smith bass strings once, and they sounded phenomenal on my old Yamaha Motion bass.

I'd get some D'Addario Half-Round myself. They are warmer than roundwound but still got that snappy sound, and they feel smooth and fast like flat wounds.

Oh, i forgot to mention that the Ken Smith strings i tried were "compression wound"... the wrap wire is compressed into an oval shape instead of being round... similar end result to what Ishan describes with D'Addario's half-round strings.
