Urgent Ebay/Ampeg Related Advice Needed!

EDITED POST!

I've pretty much decided on an Ampeg SVT3Pro as it has solid-state outputs, which means I can use it for direct recording without hooking up speakers (see also: Ampeg FAQs), which is kinda important to me. I'm going to try one out locally if I can, still, but I'm reasonably sure it's what I'm looking for.

THE PART I NEED HELP ON:

What do you think of these speaker cabinets?

Legendary Ampeg SVT 4 x 10” Speaker Cab A Classic! - eBay (item 180217036757 end time Feb-25-08 19:00:00 PST)

Ampeg 1 x 15 bass cabinet, no reserve! - (eBay.ca item 160212153615 end time 02-Mar-08 20:17:53 EST)

I was already kinda leaning that way. I'm hoping to go try things out on Tuesday at my local Ampeg dealer, which will help, but some of these auctions will be gone by then

What do you think of the speaker cabinets? Are they worth it?

dvt2 pro is basically a gussied up svt in rackmount, it's all tube, if you're choosing between whats up there, it's the only all tube option, go with that. the b2r is garbage, and the other one is solid state,

Well, the other one's tube pre, solid state power, and is also used by people whose tone I like. Tube pre/solid state power seems more acceptable in the bass world, as it keeps things cleaner sounding in the lower notes (i.e. if you want a tighter sound, rather than a loose bottom end).

I'm mainly debating between those two. I can't afford either one at full new price, so it comes down to getting a good deal used or on ebay.

The SVT2Pro I linked is a little beaten up, but far cheaper than it logically should be, while the SVT3Pro is new in box.

At any rate, I'll be trying things out locally on Tuesday. The main thing I wanted to know about was the speaker cabinets.

well Bryce has the 410 cab, and SVT something head, and holy fack his rig sounds so good. witha $300 yamaha bass no less.

could email ampeg and describe the tone you want, and see which cab they recommend.

basically you want the cab that will give you the tightest cleanest tone, right?

3 cheers for free gear!

if you can only get one, get the 4x10 cab, very nice response, pushes a lot of air. i'd advise against a single 15 as your only means of amplifying your bass. once you have the cash the 4x10 AND a 15 is nice and sick.

i i have played both, and own an ampeg svt 70's reissue. i personally prefer the sound of an all tube amp for guitar OR bass. Solid state power amps and in a lot of cases preamps as well sound better with bass than guitar in my opinion. The fact still remains that i feel full tube rigs sound better than hybrids. I would find out which one you like better by playing them if you have the chance and go with that.

I always say that if you can save up and get what you want first, you'll be happier than if you got something in the meantime while saving. just depends if you -need- something right away.
