Thinking of switching (noob)

i've always wanted to learn bass but due to...circumstances i learned guitar. now is an opportune time for me to switch and i'm between the ibanez gary willis sig(fretless) or BTB455QM. they're both the same price, same basswood body(not shape), 5 strings, scale length etc. my question for you folks is how do they really compare? i've played the BTB and liked it alot but i doubt i'll ever get my hands on the gary willis without having to buy one. i've played a fretless warwick a few times and thought it was pretty nice and the markings on the fretboard of the GW would eliminate the problem of having no clue where to stick my fingers.

has anyone played both or either and have a good opinion either way? i'm wandering in the dark here so anything helps.

our new bassist has a fretless 5 string and it sounds great, but if you go with fretless, i would use flatwound strings

IMO i would go with a fretted bass first.

fretless is great don't get me wrong, but when you play fretless to me its a whole different means of learning. especially if you are not dead on the note.

Hit a natural harmonic, then push the string down and slide.. The harmonic rings out and goes up or down..

Actually, I'd try both. I'm starting to get into playing bass (casually at work) but I much prefer playing fretless. It justs ounds better, doesn't sound as clanky. Also, Steve DiGorgio vs. Fieldy.

Not a comparison at all, but seriously, listen to DiGiorgio and tell me you don't want to play fretless then.
