My Complete Rebuild In Progress (56k, uh, no)

Alright, so I found a cheap Squier on Craigslist for $75 bucks with an amp. I've been wanting a bass for a long time now, and I've been wanting to work on a guitar, so what better guitar to do it on than one you got for pretty cheap?

I'm keeping the modifications to this guitar rather simple, as I wanted to make it sound and look a whole lot better than where it was, but keeping the cost of upgrading to a minimum, and after all, this is my first time doing this. So with all that in mind, let the pictures begin.

Oh, and this thing was covered with decals when I started, so this was the only one (plus whatever that was underneath) left.
This was the product of 45 minutes+goo gone:

After half an hour and a trip to Lowe's for my first round of supplies, here's where we stand:

That is one NASTY fretboard.

Just in case you missed it

I sanded the entire neck, but you get the idea of where I'm going (that's just excess dust making those markings, by the way)

The FedEx truck showed up

This is where we stand as of this morning:

As of right now, the total price tag for supplies is right around $80, so my budget plan is working out well so far. I'm going to Lowe's tonight to pick up a stain color that I like, and the FedEx truck is due to arrive tomorrow with more goodies

I'll bump this thread when it's all and done which should be this weekend if all goes according to plan. I'm all ears as far as thoughts, opinions, anything you'd like to add, I'd like to hear it

After a couple coats of stain on the body, it's not looking half bad

But it needs something else....

Okay, so I used the sunburst technique that was on Project Guitar, and I was rather pleased with it, except for the fact that the spots where the pushpins were didn't get covered. I think this was more of a rookie mistake than
anything, but the more I looked at them, I actually kind of started to like them

I was actually rather pleased with the overall color distribution

Woke up this morning and came down the steps, and had someone looking in at me

Went ahead and got the soldering finished up. This is the first time I've ever done a large soldering project, and holy crap it's aggravating. Especially when it's 98 degrees outside at 9:45 in the morning

I'm also aware that my soldering skills are on par with a 5 year old blind kid

Got the pickups fitted, and then realized I could be doing the assembly inside where it's 30 degrees cooler, so I packed up and moved indoors

Spike has a Bond movie on every morning

Lots of parts (and some food crumbs :lol)

It's all put back together and ready to go

It was around 11 o'clock, and I hadn't eaten a thing yet. Maple turkey rollup on a wheat tortilla with spicy brown mustard, a bit of Frank's Red Hot, and a piece of organic onion dill bread

Time for oil dye!

The fretboard turned out amazingly well, and we're all ready to be put together

Got it all put together, went to the music store and picked up some new EB slinky strings, and came up with this:

Then I took it upstairs, plugged it in....

AND IT WORKS!!!!one!!

Overall, I think it was a great learning experience, I'm pretty pleased with the cosmetic results, and I like the sound that it has. It's very smooth and far more balanced than before. As far as my budget that I kept referencing, with the guitar itself included, and for all the supplies and new parts I bought, I spent probably in the neighborhood of $175 or less. The thing that really mattered it I took my time, and spent a lot of hours working on it, in an attempt to get it just right. I had a ton of fun doing this, I just wish I had the money to this to more guitars. That's how much fun I had. Plan on seeing another guitar from me sometime in the future

You know, I actually like those little spots in the finish.

It gives it a little charm, and texture.
