Well, the guy barely went below the 9th fret... if you ask me, he was playing more of a flamenco guitar with a few lower frets.

Apparently this guy did a great bass solo on John McLaughlin's 'Que Alegria' album. Another reason for me to track that one down!

He also played with Yves Carbonne (10 string bass player) and Michael Manring on a bass album. Worth a listen or ten.

Dominique is the man....Hopefully going to a workshop with him in the summer. He i going to be at the sligo jazz summer school in Ireland if anybody happens to be about!? He is one of the bassists I want to meet most. (Aswell as matt garrison and richard bona)

Bass Player - Dominique Di Piazza's Wicked Technique

Here's a really interesting lesson on his right-hand technique. It's pretty wierd...the only other guy I can think of who regularly used a thumb-pick on bass is Jack Blades from Night Ranger (John Paul Jones might have used one as well, but I can't clarify that).

There are a good number of guys use use a similar hybrid technique, up & down stroking with the thumb (just without the thumb pick) like Bill Dickens and Victor Wooten. I've been trying to get Wooten's technique to work for me and having a bit of success. In any case:
