Altered tunings for bass

DGDA. fourth, fifth and another fifth. Awhile back I tried EAEA.

Hey know this is probably going to sound stupid but I've been trying to downtune my bass for a while (I play a five string srx 705) and often find that when I downtune I have major problems with fret buzz I was wondering if you guys have any advice to counter this?

Take the action up a touch, or try a heavier gauge string.

Everytime I write a song with alterned tuning on the guitar, the bass also needs to be retuned. so any form of chords around a,b,c is accepted.

cheers mate, still using the lighter gauges, is an unfortunate hang over from when i thought flee and trujilo where Gods at the tender age of fifteen.

There's no easy answer unfortunately. Y'know you could actually incorporate a little buzz into your tone. Listen to Doug Pinnick from Kings X or Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Death and about 100000 other bands) and they deliberately set their action so it buzzes a little to get a slightly distorted sound.

CGDA is pretty cool if you have strings guages optomized for it.

Fifths tunings are amazing!

my only instrument, a 6 string bass, is tuned in fifths G#D#A#FCG starting 3 semitones below low bass B with a .145.. gorgeous.

And i want a 7 string bass to tune in all fifths, add a high D string (.008).
