N(U)BD (used) Spector 5 string!
Just got my used Spector (Legend, custom?) 5 string today!
I was looking for a recording bass and I stumbled across this bass on Guitar Center used. They only wanted $249 for it. I've always liked Spector and this was a killer deal. I noticed it had a scratch on the top and when I called I mentioned it to the bass guy at Guitar Center. Online it said it was a 4 star rating, but the guy said it was about a 3 with all the scratches. I talked it down to $200. Sold! Got it for $232 shipped! The only thing that bothers me besides the scratches, are the electronics. They are kind of scratchy, any ideas? Plays pretty good, but its not set up right. There is a lot of fret buzz, probably the truss rod. Any tips on setting up a bass? I plan to play it in drop G#. Also, any tips for getting out scratches and oiling the fingerboard? Thanks! |

I would get some buffing compound and a buffing wheel for the scratches and lemon oil the crap out of the fingerboard should be easy enough. As for the scratchy pots use contact cleaner and compressed air while turning the knobs back and forth rapidly if that doesnt work replace the pots with better quality ones and re-sauder with lead free sauder. Congrats on the sick new bass.

I also noticed the back of the neck could use some sanding too. Truss rod adjustment helped alot, now got to deal with the string height. |

Scratchy electronics, first thing to try is spray electrical contact cleaner (not WD40 or other oil product) on all the pots & switches & move plenty to get rid of any gunk...

Nice looking bass! I dig the blue transparent finish. How do you like those HZ pickups? I've never tried those out.

![]() Thanks man. They sound pretty great. Like said above, for bass, they are probably way better in comparison to the guitar HZ's |

it sounds like the sauder just came loose it should be a easy fix man and the Emg hz bass pickups are very nice unlike their guitar counterparts.

What a catch, beautiful! And it cost less than $300 used. From what I understand, the EMG-HZ's are killer in tone. My Legend 5 has the SSD's, very treble-heavy but excellent otherwise. Anyways, congrats man!

Ya the pickups sound pretty good. Put new strings on it and oiled the fretboard. Made a big difference for sure. |
