Rock, Funk bass on a budget?

As the title say, I'm looking for just that. A normal 4 string that is.

I play a lot of alternative rock and funk now a days and needs a good bass to cover those kind of grounds. Brand and such doesn't really matter as long as it's not a piece of s**t, so to speak :P

So what do you think could be interesting for me?

Look for a used P-Bass, there are plenty of good deals on MIM and MIJ ones out there and they're pretty much the founding bass of both Rock and Funk.

If you need an amp for it, take a look a GK. Used 400RB, 700RB, and even 800RB models are pretty plentiful. Throw them on top of a borrowed cab and they're good to go.

In my preference, id take a j-bass over a p-bass. But i play finger style and prefer the skinnier neck.

B.C. Rich's and Orange's

Every guitarist on earth should have a Telecaster, even if you hate Fender

I'm with Max. There is some serious bang-for-your-buck in used P-Basses.
