Bass pickups: ESP stock or Blackouts?
My bass currently has the stock ESP active pickups in it, and they're decent. I've been able to get some good tones out of them, but not DAMN good tones.
I was thinking that I should replace them with SD Bass Blackouts, and I know they would be better than what I already have, but how much better will they be? Is it worth it? |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the bass is currently tuned to drop E0, correct? Have you thought about the EMG DC series pickups? Going from experience, the DC pickups (40DC series in a 5-string) were very articulate, even when dropped a whole step down.
I'll let other chime in who have more experience with the Blackouts. |

Yeah, currently tuned to drop E0. I noticed that there's both the DC and the DCX, and from what I read in reviews the DCXs were an 'improvement' on the DCs, in an attempt to make them sound more organic and compete with the Blackouts.
I don't really know much more about that, it's just some things I read. Does that sound right? |
