when i had it, i loved it and hated it. In my basswood rg it sounded flubby, not enough definination, and it was muddy, but in my mahogany s7 it sounded awesome, it was articulate, tight, full sounding, it sounded crazily similiar to my emg's, but in a passive form.
If your going basswood, no, but if your going mahogany, definatly get one. My ONLY complaint in the mahogany was that it was a little noisey, just a small buzz at high volumes or when you were near any interferance, like a crt. but i think , in mahogany at least, you could totally pull off the "timber" sounded your looking for, hope that helps
