Looking for a platform-neutral format to store DVD's on the computer for my upcoming "
trip". The actual ripping process can be either Mac or PeeCee (sorry, no *nix boxes with DVD drives at this time). Basically, what I want to do is to keep just the main feature, the english soundtrack, ditch everything else and compress it in a format that's very space efficient without being dependent on any particular platform for playback.
I'm guessing that H.264/MP4 is the best format, but I have no real clue for the stripping and compressing. I have tools for archiving DVD's, but it's too manually intensive for this process and produces ISO's to be a new DVD master, not a single "video file" for playback.
