You're not running it on -16, by chance? Is it cool for a half second, and then suddenly it drops out?

I had this problem too. As it turns out, I was being an absolute moron and had hooked it up backwards.

The amp's speaker output goes into the Hotplate's input, and then the Hotplate's output goes to your speaker.
