So, today was pretty busy:
- shimmed the OFR7 that I installed yesterday. This was cake... just used the shim that came out of the LFR7 that was on there before. Radius issues now sorted.
- enlarged the route just forward of the trem very slightly to eliminate the rubbing issue.
- installed Blazes... this was NOT cake. Having done it once now, I can see how it wouldn't be as big a deal next time, and I don't want to make it sound difficult, but without the right tools I'd strongly suggest not bothering.
The Blaze's needed some SERIOUS dremeling, not just of the baseplate, but of the middle pickup ring to get them to fit. Perhaps Carvin have shrunk their route yet more lately... End result: lots of dust everywhere, but they're finally in. Only fucked up the paint job a little...
Wired it up using the original Carvin "scheme". It's a bit funky, but it lets me leave the leads really long, so whatever. It works.
Verdict: wow, the Carvin pickups blow. Tons. I could kill those bastards for not making the guitar with a standard route. You appreciate it more after you go through the hassle yourself...
Anyway, here's the pics bit:
