it's true, the cheapo earplugs you buy in bulk anywhere are usually a total pain because the frequency blocking is nowhere near flat, so everything's gonna sound muffled. If you can just set up your sound how you like and live with wearing those, definitely do. If that bothers you too much, you may want to invest in molded earplugs. they're expensive but if you're careful with em you can have them forever and they'll have flat response and fit perfectly to your ears.


and yeah. try turning up the mids and NOT try to hear a difference. Sometimes you psychologically anticipate how you THINK it's going to sound and you don't really just hear how it sounds with the tweaking. A few months ago i discovered that my rig sounds best with the bass at 0. I was always skeptical about it, but it really just sounds great that way and i had to get used to the idea of having a knob at 0 or w/e. Don't be afraid to experiment
