I know you've discounted attenuators, but I'd advise looking into a hotplate. You put it between speaker and amp, AND it allows me to use a halfstack at home PLUS get the sound of it being cranked without annoying my neighbours.

So what, you may say, but, a 50w tube amp is still going to be loud, there's no way around that, and for it to sound good you'll have to be running it louder than the levels you'll want at home.

Yes, it's 300$, BUT, it's the best money I've ever spent. I can play my nice amps at home, and I can have awesome tone, and I don't get the enviromental health trying to bust down my door for noise polution.

but, if you do have your heart set on a combo, then I'd still advise getting an attenuator, if just to actually get the benefit of tubes at a sane volume...
