This is going to sound harsh, but: get over it. You apparently have the money to afford a really bitching guitar, and you're sacrificing potential instrument quality for a name on the headstock and maybe a paint finish (although the latter is debatable).
Seriously, Nick has a collection of some of the best custom builders in America (if not the world) lined up, most of which have very balanced rates. For the amount you'd spend on a high-end European or Asian import, you could get a much higher cost/quality ratio with a custom. Even if you went with "factory" specs and didn't experiment with woods, parts or instrument dimensions (the Cooley's body routes don't count, since they're a non-issue for custom builders), the build and wood pedigree would make it a more worthwhile investment. Are Caparisons good instruments? Without a doubt. Are they worth their comparatively high cost in North America? I'm not so sure.
Note: Really, this is all conjecture coming from me, as I haven't played a Caparison. But it's annoying to see you say "well, I suppose I could give my preferred guitars specs up, just so I can have a Caparison" while staying willfully blind to the myriad alternatives available even within the same shop.
