Small warning for those of you thinking all EMG pickups are interchangeable without body modification - they may not be. I'm swapping out an EMG707 and putting in place a EMG81-7. However, the 3 pin connection on my EMG707 faces down the length of the pickup and therefore fits into the straight channel dug beneath the pickup cavity in my guitar. While the EMG81-7 has the 3 pin connection towards one edge of the pickup facing 90 degrees different to the EMG707 (i.e. pointing across the width of the pickup), and therefore not sitting in the channel without further drilling.
What were they thinking?
I know some people are handy with a Dremel, but come on EMG - surely the point of the great Quick-Connect system is that things are easily swappable? Here's to more standardization...
Also worth reminding people any of the coil-tapped EMGs like the EMG89 use a different Quick-Connect fitting to their non-coil-tapped pickups, which is fair enough, but not obvious on their website.
Hope that's useful to some people, I don't post here much but have read lots of helpful information from you all over the last couple of years - Thanks!
