It is definitely more expensive to send the body and neck together, though, than to just send the body. If he has the body he can make sure a new neck fits perfectly.
Either way you'll have to pad it, obviously. Bubble wrap in multiple layer is usually enough for the instrument, then fill the box with something as I mentioned above.
