Yeah, the only mahogany gutiar he has is his new Xiphos, IIRC. And as far as weight difference, im gonna have to disagree with you bro. My 1077XL weighs more than my Mahogany/Maple 8527, so its just a matter of the particular density of the wood they use at the time. Just like there's shitty sounding mahogany, and great sounding mahogany.

Me personally, i prefer to use Basswood to detune because of its LACK of bass that keeps my signal pretty clear. i tried my 8527 in A standard with a 707 AND an 81-7 in the bridge, and neither one of those combinations had the clarity of my 1077 with a 707. But this is all just my opinion...
