| Parallel vs Coil Split I'm sure you're all familiar with these common features in most aftermarket pickups - two alternate configurations to series humbucking to get different sounds. But it didn't occur to me until just now to really think about how i'm wiring my guitar when i put a pickup in. I always just re-wired the new pups the way the stock parts were.
What i found now, installing an Air Norton in my RGA, the parallel mode for this pickup sounds perfect. I like it a hell of lot more than the split coil setting. This was a revelation and that makes me look back on when i had a pair of Dimarzio PAFs wired in the same 5-way configuration and the PAF neck was useless to me in parallel. hmm
so i'm definitely gonna have to try out the PAFs in coil tapped mode. and when i get my 727 functioning, i'm definitely gonna change the coil tap switch on the AN7 to a parallel/series switch.
I suppose this was partly to share my joy with this new discovery. I was also wondering if anybody has experience with different pickups comparing the parallel sound to the split coil sound, what you liked better, and what kinda sound you use it for.
