But as someone who's A/B'd these things pretty extensively, and after having the benefit of a few hours of play now, I can easily, and unequivocally say, right off the bat, the bass tracking of Alnico 8 is tighter than Alnico 5, and at LEAST as articulate as ceramic... if not even more. I completely disagree with that statement, at least in regards to my pickup. Hell, Steve B at Dimarzio thinks alnico just doesn't work AT ALL in a 7-string pickup, no matter how many times I tell him I think and find it works great.
My low A sounds even more defined and punchy.
And ceramic (anyone who's done an alnico/ceramic swap can attest) sounds "dead" in comparison. |
exactly. i think, they know alot about what they do, but sometimes get stuck in certain routines of design, like steve only using ceramics exclusively in 7 string pickups, and tim saying a8 is inarticulate. having heard the duncan crazy 8, its totally suparr-has-articulation
dunno. i definitely ask what they think, especially with the price of bareknuckles, but i dont take it as gospel
still waiting. and i just asked my mom when it comes not to put my box of 5 by the computer lol
