i noticed that too, but it's only on the faces--the edges are still shiny-steel colored. i've also seen other A8's that are normal steel colored. i don't think that smokey color of ours is a property of the metal, but rather something from however they processed the big slab of metal they cut ours from. i'd bet the dark gray ceramic ones are also steel-colored on the inside, since they are still an alloy of mostly steel.
