I had a blast dismantling a laptop with my leatherman right before I moved. Sure, I could have kept it as a backup to my backup laptop or something, but I wanted to downsize a bit and anyway the LCD screen was evidently shot (it was kinda purplish the last time I booted it up), so I just took it apart into little peices. It was pretty.
There was a method to my madness - it originally came from my dad's medical office, and at one time had potentially recoverable medical files on it. As this is a huge legal liability, before the laptop could be given away or donated the hard drive had to be stripped. I figure I could have paid someone to do it or given Chris a six pack or something, but on my limited time table I decided it I could locate the hard drive and shatter the disk inside, from a legal perspective all data on it was pretty much gone.
