A) Its not noticeably brighter to me compared to rosewood or ebony (IMO)
B) A regular TOM needs to have the neck angled in the pocket to make sure the strings are parallel to the fretboard. Go play a Les Paul or Hellraiser.
A recessed TOM is recessed so that its overall height is very close to the height of the fretboard (a little higher) and this eliminates the need for the neck to be angled.
C) N/A - never used EMGs in 7s with maple/maple.
D) Why would you get a locking nut for a TOM? Better off getting locking tuners.
