surely a new member could get some help?

ok, for now i'm planning on running this through my marshall 3203 artist. i think i should be able to just run it through the effects loop? I like my marshall, great lead channel, but not really suited for metal. I'm looking at getting a pre-amp because of the obvious reason that they're cheaper than a full head. Since this preamp has a bypass, i figure i could be able to A/B between the engl pre, and the marshall? Use the marshall for the moderate stuff, and kick on the Engl for the heavy stuff. Now, i know you really should get a dedicated poweramp to go with a pre, but does it really make that much a difference? i'm just playing in my basement for now, so as long as it sounds decent i'll be happy. Also, the 3203 sounds pretty good, and it only has a tube power and solid pre, so i'm assuming its the power section of the amp that's good.

thoughts?
