The first 'shred' thing I learned was Eugene's Trick bag too. Just learn it slow and clean.

Also learn that JohnC canon rock thing. its really overdone nowadays but is a good place to start (when I learned canon rock back like what, seven years ago, youtube didnt exist and everyone didnt overdo the song... but I digress)

Ive found that interestingly enough, Mozart's Rondo alla Turka (Turkish March) works out my alternate picking better than any exercise out there. And when you play it at the origional speed its really manageable.

Really, just take almost any decent speed violin part to a classical song and learn that, or the upper part of a piano song
