I've been trying to learn the solo from "Dying in your arms" by Trivium, its actually pretty simple (its just a few patterns over and over again). But It is very fast.

Can anyone recommend any good songs/solos which will help me start out on this whole "shred" thing?

Yes, I do have a metronome.
