Resurrecting an old friend

I helped my Dad clean out his garage last weekend and decided to bring home my box full of old Amiga 500 stuff rather than have it get piled on.

The stuff has all been reasonably well stored for the past 5 years or so (maybe more I dunno ).

I still get a kick out of messing around with the old nostalgic stuff. I've used the WinUAE Amiga emulator to satisfy my cravings lately, but I'd like to see if the old girl will still fire.

After being set aside for so long is there anything I should do as a precautionary measure before I try to fire up a disk in it?

I'm wondering if the read heads on a drive get corroded and will damage the, no doubt, fragile old disks.

I could pull it all apart first but don't want to bother if it's rather pointless. But if there is something quick and simple I should do before applying power it might be worth it.

Any ideas? I've never pulled a PC this old out of storage before.
