Well, dude, sometimes it is just a matter of taking some time off from it. Also, I find that you have to mentally "work" to do something genuinely different. When you develop your technique, you build yourself into a box and you'll default to it... constantly! When I write, I section together the compositions piece-by piece, re-"zeroing" myself at every step to
not just play the generic, expectant crap I've learned over the years. Dunno if that helps... probably not.
