I actually just ordered a 727 after trying a beaten to death one - actually, the PUs are quite nice for what I like. They are
very clear and aren't real metal machines... But then again: I've always prefered low output PUs... oh, and I LOVE single coils!
If you go Carvin there is just one thing to remember: get stainless steel frets!!!
1500 will actually buy you a barebones EBMM JP7... So, my choice would be either a custom build, an EBMM with no options or a Carvin.
