A 12-string neck is SLIGHTLY wider than a six. It might be an improvement.

I use one of those Kaiser clamp-style 6-string capos. It's a tight fit on my UV, but it JUST covers all seven strings. I wouldn't go too overboard on it, but if you're just using the capo to do a few overdubs in different registers, then it's more than up to snuff.
