Feel like checking out a bunch of Aussie metal bands? Well, I feel like plugging 'em!

All bands I've plugged before, I'm sure, but they deserve another mention:

Dungeon/LORD
- Essentially the same band with a name change, for reasons I won't get into here. They're a thrashy power metal band, with touches of prog and AOR. They've supported bands like Queensryche, Destruction, Yngwie Malmsteen, Nightwish, Angra and Megadeth; Mustaine was so impressed by them that he took Dungeon to Eurpoe as direct support for Megadeth in 2005. www.myspace.com/dungeonmetal and www.myspace.com/lordaus should get you sorted.

YouTube - LORD - Lost In The Light (Live - Dungeon) www.PyroMusic.net

Alarum - Progressive jazz/death metal that I've plugged countless times. Basically, if you did Cynic, Atheist Aghora etc you'll dig them. They've toured the US and Canada with the likes of Necrophagist, Neuraxis, Arsis and Ion Dissonance. The entire lineup was also the backing band for The Berserker at one point, if you're into them. One of their guitarists plays a Carvin DC727 too (although, from what I've heard, he recently quit the band). Invalid User , if you're so inclined.

Blood Duster - This band started off as grindcore but these days they mix it up between grindcore and Turbonegro-style punk with cookie monster vocals. They recently put out a triple album called Lynden Na (or something like that, Norse for "the new sound" apparently) with one disc of rock, one of grindcore and a downloadable cd of Melvins-esque noise. If you dig the rock stuff, check out the Cunt album, and for grindcore check out Fisting The Dead. They'll be touring the US next year with Brutal Truth. www.myspace.com/bloodduster - you know what to do...

Psycroptic - Probably our most successful metal band internationally right now. They're a brutal death metal band with quite a heavy melodeath influence and have toured Europe quite a few times, with the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Vader. They have three albums, the latest features a different vocalist but they're all pretty similar. Their drummer recently did session drums for Aborted and plays for a few other Aussie bands too. www.myspace.com/psycroptic

Alchemist - These guys have been around for close to 20 years now. They started off as Voivod-esque death metal but over time have become more psychedelic and progressive. They play sevens these days, too, I think. For an overview of their sound over the years, check out the two-disc best-of/rarities Embryonics, out on Relapse. They've toured Europe and the UK with the likes of Cult Of Luna and... someone else, The Gathering. I think. Not a hell of a lot on youtube, so you'll have to make do with www.myspace.com/alchemistau

YouTube - Alchemist - "First Contact"

I'll add more bands when I can be bothered. Enjoy!
