I wouldn't say they're vital to me, but I like having them.

I love the way chorus sounds on guitars, clean or dirty.

I don't need delay and reverb for leads, but play better with them, as I don't spend as much time worrying about how fast I'm playing.

Outside those, anything else is purely for fun once in a great while.
