I started with 40 grit with my orbital sander & it still took the better part of 90+ minutes to break through the various degrees of finish to get to the wood.

Short of doing lots & lots of sanding, Jasco paint stripper is the closest I've come to quickly removing paint, but make sure there's plenty of ventilation, wear oven cleaning gloves & still get used to doing a fair bit of sanding.
