I've not really had much experience with a Dual Rec, but I had a quick go on a Mesa Road King the other day. Didn't really get to mess around with it much but I didnt like the tone at all really. It was very loose sounding IMO and far too bassy.
On the other hand every ENGL I've tried (my Fireball, a Powerball, and an Invader) have AWESOME high gain sounds! Perfect for me at least.

If you're looking for lots of gain the fireball has TONNES, I rarely turn the gain up past halfway on mine. You can get a real nice DM tone with it, as long as you dont scoop the mids too much (but that sounds like shit on any amp IMO).

Best thing for you to do though is to try one out, and a few other amps you might be looking at.
