I am planning a build and i want to have a 25.5" - 27.5" fan. I am designing it using fretfind2d and it asks about the position of the perpendicular fret. What is the number in reference to? Like its default to 0.5. What is that measurement?

I have never played a fanned fret so what is the most comfortable position for the perpendicular fret? Does it make chording much harder with the nut angle being steeper?
