Thanks a lot, both of you. I think I'm planning on going with most of what you said, Obsidian, but I'm still not sure on the neck joint. I figure the wood doesn't affect the tone much since it's bolt on, so I suppose it's down to looks. I'm not sure if it'd be as sexy with maple on Koa, but a Koa neck will cost me a pretty penny.
Edit: After looking at some nice pretty pictures, I think the all maple neck will do just fine
