I'm with you, I couldn't tell much difference between the Blaze and Invader. I'm not sure why. They should sound different.
As for the Invader not sounding good in a basswood guitar, it sounds great to me. I'm not a 100%, but I'm pretty sure the Avalanche is basswood, I could be wrong.
