Its very sad. The Syrians have such a rich culture and Damascus is the oldest biggest inhabited city in the world. At least the serious violence is outside of that city but its very sad. Im surprised that he is ruling the country with such the ruthless iron fist his dad used. Assad was supposed to be much more in tune with todays world. He was expected by the rest of the world to act true to his being from a different generation but his army has been acting just like the one under his fathers rule. I wonder if he is a puppet or really in charge and doing what he thinks his father would have wanted. Regardless, the Syrians are a highly respected culture with highly intelligent people who do what they can with what they have.
