I used to play in drop B on a 24.75" Gibson Les Paul with a set of 11-52 gauge strings. I never had any problem with it. Drop C is very easily manageable on a 24.75" or 25.5" inch scale. A baritone is not necessary at all. If you want one, get one, but it's not necessary.

If I had a baritone, I wouldn't use drop C. I'd probably go lower. Drop A, maybe... (assuming it's 28" scale or so).
