| Solos?! Hey, I was listening to Bolt Thrower's album, "War Master" and I thought there were a lot of cool riffs, but the solos are what I like to refer to as "Kerry King solos." I don't mean that as a compliment since I consider Kerry King to be the worst soloist in the world (along with the other guitarist for Slayer, Hannemann, or whatever his name is). I cringe every time I hear one of those super fast sloppy random-sounding "solos" with the occasional bending squeals and tremolo bar masturbation where EVERY solo sounds exactly the same regardless of the feel of the song itself.
Can anyone tell me why some bands do the "Kerry King solo"? Do they think it sounds good? Do they think anyone likes it? (Yeah, I know a lot of Slayer fans like it. I like a lot of Slayer songs, but I wish they would just cut out the solos half the time). I was in a band where I got the lead player to just improvise a solo over what I was playing for a song and he had no idea what to play so he shredded over it as fast as he could and I was like "No... no Kerry King solos... that sounds like shit." And he just laughed, "Yeah. I had no idea what to play."
If your solos sound like shit, why solo? Opinions? |
