the 5150 needs some TLC to get the best out of it. I did a total retube with JJ's and I put 2 low gain pre amp tubes in V3,and V4. well that basically eliminated all the hiss you get on the lead channel and it makes the rhythm channel actually sound prety good clean. the JJ's also warm it up a lot.
I also use a BBE sonic Stomp and I run it thru a hotplate. These amps have a sweet spot at around 4-5 post gain, but that is so freaking loud it's a joke, but with the hotplate I can cut it back to -8db, or -12 db and it sounds great, I kick on the sonic stomp when I cut it back and it brings the sound "out front".
Plus I run it thru the Marshall Cab with Greenbacks, I think it souds much smoother thru them.
