In the past I have not had trouble adapting to extra range/strings in instruments. I did it on bass seemlessly and I don't see any reason why it will not be the same on guitar (I am currently in the process of getting a 7). The extension is pretty natural in stringed instruments as such. I mean all the techniques are the same, the neck changes a little, no big deal.

Guitar techs are for sissies.
