could very well be, i've always wondered why more companies didn't do this sort of thing, where they have a popular product line, then make the same thing with all the expensive and replaceable parts scrapped for the people who were going to replace them anyways, like cheapo pups, no inlays, ditch fancy tops and transparent finishes, then knock $2-400 off the price tag...personally i'd be more inclined to buy a $5-600 guitar and spend the remaining $4-500 on awesome new electronics that do exactly what i want...or just for the dudes who want a good guitar but can't afford to drop $1k or more all at once, let them buy something with good woodwork that they can piece by piece upgrade into being just as awesome as the fancy version
