I've actually never played an Engl - just never found anyone in the area that stocks them. From all accounts they're pretty damned good, and I'm really curious to. I've heard that they don't necessarily cut that well live, but if you were getting enough gain at 3 to keep you happy, odds are that's less the amp and more guys cranking up the gain and wondering why their tone is getting lost behind everything else in the mix.
I agree, 60 watts is more than enough for any venue I've ever played, either because it was enough to fill the club or because I was mic'd up anyway. Hell, I'd be even happier with a 30-watt version, the only gig I ever needed more than the 25 watts my old TSL put out on VPR mode was when I was playing a stupidly loud gig, keeping up unmic'd with a mic'd up band, and I mean, we were
painfully loud.
