MMhmm, normally i wouldnt, but if its a situation like a carvin (only company i can think of atm) where the pickup mounting is so proprietary that it takes alot of work to put anything else in, its actually a plus id think, as matt said. It doesnt put me off of carvin much cause i know that i could fit it well myself, but for alot of people, the idea of takign a router or dremel to the guitar or pickup as your only means of installing an aftermarket pickup is a big turnoff. If i were a random dude, id rather have the guitar professionally adjusted to work with dimarzios etc
And like you said, the resale value on carvins isnt worth rhinoceros asscrack, so yeah
