Quick question about modes

hi there guys.. im trying to learn the modes and apply it to my playing. But i just need someone to see if this kind of thinking (?) is right:

Using C as example
playing over a major with major 7 chord - i could use C ionian and C lydian
playing over a minor with minor 7 chord - C dorian, C phrygian and C Aeolian
playing over a dominant - C mixolidian
playing over a half-diminished (?) - C locrian

if instead of a major with major 7 i play just a major triad, i can use c ionian, C lydian and then C Mixolidian, right ???

i know some scales might sound better in some cases, but i just want to test as much as possible, since it would help in the future

thats the only thing i coudnt figure out all by myself... it seens pretty logic in my head, but maybe im missing something

thanks, and sorry for my bad english
