Is it really just a matter of warmth vs clarity?

the digital "analog" modes on the DD-20 sound pretty damn authentic to me. in a live context you will not hear a difference.
i used (and still do) a Boss DD-5 for about 12 years now and really have no complaints with it. recently i was on the hunt for a good analog delay, but ended up getting the DD-20 because like i said earlier, it's simulated analog and tape delays sounded just fine for me, and i love the digital flexibility

.
if all you want is just the one analog delay sound that the MXR or EHX can give you, then that would be your best option. i personally like switching between different delays alot, so they really don't work for me.
